What We Each Bring to the Table: Picnics with Purpose

Over the past few months, 120 professionals and practitioners who work for TOGETHER member organizations participated in four Good Company Picnics across the Bay Area with an impressive array of offerings – figs and plums from their own yard, treats from their favorite shops, and homemade persimmon cake (and the generosity of sharing the persimmon cake recipe afterward!). They brought their organization’s swag to swap––t-shirts and stickers and bandanas and more so that our coalition can proudly rep their partners when they head out into the world.

And our hosts especially brought their leadership skills, welcoming TOGETHER members to the places they love. They brought us to parks not yet open to the public so we could see the work that goes into opening one. They brought flowers and taught us to make bouquets. They introduced us to bunnies named Oreo (Oreo #1, Oreo #2, Oreo #3…). They were generous with their time and their skills, and they came to build relationships.

The Good Company Picnics are one way TOGETHER Bay Area is building connections across the region that lead to new projects, new ideas, new jobs, and new solutions. They’re one way we are catalyzing more land conservation and changing how work is done to be more equitable and inclusive. These were opportunities for professionals at all stages of their careers to connect—for new professionals to find mentors and peers. Lessons were shared that improve the quality and increase the quantity of smart, strategic work being done. And it’s through gatherings like these picnics that we’re building our ability to coordinate responses to crises and collaborate to seize opportunities.

Together, we’re changing how work is being done.

We are grateful for the time, energy, creativity, and partnership of:
